Basic Skills Credentialing Available Through Workforce Centers

ACT offers basic skills credentials at county Workforce Centers.

ACT offers basic skills credentials at county Workforce Centers.

Ramsey County residents can now receive a credential for basic skills which have become an expectation of area employers.  The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is awarded at four different levels of proficiency: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

The NCRC has been developed by American College Testing (ACT), the same organization that provides college entrance exams taken by thousands of high school students.  This Career Readiness Certificate assesses an individual’s skill at Applied Math, Reading for Information and Locating Information. These skills are ones that most other skills are built upon.  Today’s employers want to know that when they hire someone, that individual possesses those skills. Having this certificate proves to an employer the holder has the requisite basic skills.

The Workforce Centers in St. Paul at Fairview and University Avenue and in North St. Paul at McKnight Road and 11th Avenue are locations where the assessments are given.  Since the Workforce Centers began offering the certificate, more than 300 Ramsey County residents have received one.  It is the hope that one day, all county residents who need one will acquire an NCRC.

For more information, please contact the North St. Paul Workforce Center at (651) 779-5652.
